Win 1 of 4 Google Cardboards in our Cardboard Camera Contest!

Alliterations aside, one of the coolest apps that just became available is Google’s Cardboard Camera. Now, users can take a picture with their camera in virtual reality, record the sounds and relive the experience of the entire shot in VR. It’s been a long time coming, but the pictures are just incredible.

How it works

Once you open up the app, touch the camera icon and then tap the orange button to start recording while moving to the right. The camera will stop recording automagically (yup, I said it) once you’ve gone 360°.  You can stop the shot prematurely if you wish by tapping on the orange button again.

You can record the sound while taking the picture so you can relive the memory better!

One of the cool things is that you can record sound too to give you an immersive experience when viewing the photo in virtual reality. If you don’t want to include sound, you can turn it off during recording.

NOTE: Currently, x86 devices (like the ZenFone 2 – ZE551ML) aren’t supported, but you can still view VR pictures and videos. The ZenFone 2 Laser isn’t built on x86 architecture, so that will work with Cardboard Camera.
