Many gamers aren’t that concerned about the size of their graphics card. A wide range of today’s most popular PC cases offer plenty of elbow room, even for unabashedly large cards like our new ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090. That said, there’s a community of gamers who are always on the lookout for cards that deliver the performance they need in a more compact profile. Some have their eye on a space-saving small-form-factor (SFF) chassis. Others need a slimmer heatsink that leaves their secondary PCIe x16 slot accessible, perhaps to leave room for a capture card. Whatever your needs, the Prime GeForce RTX 5080 is ready for the occasion.
Powered by Blackwell
With the GeForce RTX 50 Series, NVIDIA debuts its latest Blackwell architecture. Armed with fifth-gen Tensor cores, new streaming multiprocessors optimized for neural shaders, and fourth-gen Ray Tracing cores built for Mega Geometry, the new graphics cards unlock access to the next generation of graphics technologies.
For many gamers, the highlight of the new architecture is DLSS 4. DLSS is a revolutionary suite of neural rendering technologies that uses AI to boost FPS, reduce latency, and improve image quality. The latest breakthrough, DLSS 4, brings new Multi Frame Generation and enhanced Ray Reconstruction and Super Resolution. But there’s more. NVIDIA Reflex 2 with Frame Warp provides game-winning responsiveness, and these cards are equipped to give you the best experience with ray-traced graphics yet.
Alongside the architecture updates comes beefed-up video memory. The GeForce RTX 5080 boosts memory bandwidth by 34% with its upgrade to speedy GDDR7. Its plentiful 16GB helping of VRAM will give you the freedom to crank up the graphics settings in any game out there, even at higher resolutions.
Slim and trim for your SFF PC
In the past, building a petite gaming PC involved double and even triple-checking component sizes to ensure compatibility. Today, the process is much easier thanks to the NVIDIA GeForce SFF-Ready program, which simplifies the process of building a space-saving PC by labeling SFF-Ready cases and graphics cards.
When you select a chassis and a GPU that are both SFF-Ready, you can be confident they’ll be compatible, and you’ll have a streamlined building experience. Just 50mm thick and 304 mm long, the 2.5-slot Prime GeForce RTX 5080 fits comfortably within NVIDIA’s recommended form factor guidelines for SFF PCs so that you can build your space-saving PC with confidence.
A cooling solution that’s ready for primetime
The Prime GeForce RTX 5080 is lean and slim, but we take advantage of every inch to create an effective cooling solution.
New for this generation is a phase-change GPU thermal pad. By melting to effectively fill the gaps between the GPU and the thermal module, this pad provides superior thermal conductivity and enhanced heat dissipation, ensuring optimal performance. Phase-change thermal pads offer greater longevity than traditional thermal pastes, giving you peace of mind that your card’s cooling solution is built to go the distance.
The heat spreader that sits atop the GPU gets special attention, too, with our MaxContact Design. This manufacturing process effectively expands the surface area of the heat spreader by 5%, compared to traditional designs. A vapor chamber and substantial heatsink soak up heat from the card, helping to ensure premium performance in demanding workloads. These technologies, in concert with powerful Axial-tech fans, improve temperatures by up to 2°C.
The Prime GeForce RTX 5080 wields three Axial-tech fans, each featuring a smaller hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring to increase downward air pressure for lower temperatures, less noise and higher performance. A vented backplate optimized for airflow works in tandem with these dynamic fans to keep noise levels and temperatures under tight control. For silent operation under light loads, these graphics cards feature 0dB technology that allows the fans to completely stop spinning whenever temperatures permit. A physical Dual BIOS switch makes it easy to flip between two modes, one that prioritizes low core temps and one that prioritizes low noise levels.
High-bandwidth next-gen connectors
Don’t miss the upgrade that NVIDIA 50 Series graphics cards offer regarding their connectivity selection. The ports on the Prime GeForce RTX 5080 are equipped for stunning bandwidth, enabling you to take advantage of some truly next-level displays. PC gamers will likely be most interested in the trio of DisplayPort 2.1b ports capable of up to 80Gbps of throughput thanks to the four lanes of the UHBR20 link.
The engineers on our display team will have no shortage of ways to play with all that bandwidth, but here’s one that’s coming your direction very shortly: DisplayPort 2.1 allows for 4K 240Hz without compression. Check out the just-announced ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM to experience high-resolution, high-PPI gaming without the need for DSC. Even more dazzling combinations are theoretically possible with DisplayPort 2.1 and DSC. We’re not ready to make any announcements on this front yet, but unhindered access to the next generation of gaming displays is undoubtedly a major draw of the Prime GeForce RTX 5080.
Built to go the distance
We go above and beyond to give you the confidence that your Prime graphics card will deliver the performance you need for years to come. Their highly durable dual ball fan bearings offer twice the lifespan of other options, and they’re equipped with long-life capacitors. Additionally, these cards were built with our Auto-Extreme Technology, which automates the manufacturing process so that all soldering can be completed in a single pass, reducing thermal strain and environmental impact for a product that will stand the test of time.
To protect the GPU, the Prime GeForce RTX 5080 features ASUS GPU Guard. This process applies adhesive to secure all four corners to reduce the risk of cracks, while a GPU bracket helps ensure uniform mounting pressure and extra stability. The PCB gets additional protection, too, with reinforcement provided by a backplate that adds structural rigidity, helping to prevent flex and to protect components and trace pathways from damage.
Prime graphics cards do more with GPU Tweak III
The latest version of our GPU Tweak III software has everything you need to customize your experience with your Prime graphics card. Our ASUS preset modes allow you to boost your card’s power or cut back on noise with a single click, and you can even set your own profiles on a game-by-game basis.

Power considerations
If you’re buying an ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 or 5080, we recommend taking a moment to make sure that your power supply is up to task. If you’re building your first PC, or if it’s been a while since you last bought a PSU, click here to learn more about how to pick a PSU and what differentiates the different ASUS lineups.
Perhaps you’d prefer a quick recommendation instead. For the Prime GeForce RTX 5080, we’ll point you to ASUS Prime 850W Gold. Draped in complementary style, equipped for efficient performance, and ready for your new graphics card with a bundled 16-pin PCIe cable, it’s an easy choice for your next build.
We often recommend that builders bump up a wattage tier, though. This makes it more likely that you’re operating in the sweet spot of your PSU’s efficiency curve, and the extra overhead can help if you add lots of USB devices or dig into some overclocking. The ROG Strix 1000W Gold Aura Edition gives you more than just a wattage boost, though. With massive ROG heatsinks, a high-efficiency Axial-tech fan, a striking aluminum finish, and RGB illumination, it’s perfect for your next gaming rig.
