The one that started it all: ROG Crosshair
Launched in 2006 for AMD’s Socket AM2 platform, the original ROG Crosshair was a statement. It asserted that the PC gaming community had fully arrived, with arms wide open for performance tweakers, tournament champions, and gaming novices alike.
With its distinctive blue and white components on a black PCB, eye-catching copper heatsinks and heatpipes, a separate SupremeFX audio card for cleaner sound, and a rear LCD for at-a-glance diagnostics, the Crosshair established the core ROG philosophy: build the best-performing, most feature-rich boards for those who demand more. It was packed with overclocking tools that were revolutionary for its time, setting the stage for everything that would follow.
The AM3+ powerhouse: ROG Crosshair V Formula-Z
Jump forward to 2012. As AMD’s FX series of processors captured the hearts of overclockers, the Crosshair V Formula-Z stood as the ultimate platform to unleash their potential. This board represented the maturation of the ROG aesthetic, solidifying the iconic red and black color scheme that would define an entire era of PC building.
It was engineered for one primary purpose: to push the limits of the AM3+ architecture. With its robust power delivery, advanced thermal design, and a suite of tools like GameFirst networking, the Formula-Z was the definitive motherboard for enthusiasts determined to extract every last megahertz from their system. To prep gamers to build a multi-GPU powerhouse, the board came with Crossfire X/SLi support for up to three graphics card with CrossFire in dual x16 mode and Tri-SLi in x16/x8/x8 mode.
Heralding a new era: ROG Crosshair VI Hero
When AMD redefined the CPU landscape with the launch of the first-generation Ryzen processors, the ROG Crosshair VI Hero was there to lead the charge.
This board marked a major turning point in both performance and design. The advent of the RGB LED era meant that gamers were more interested in establishing the color of the build through synchronized light rather than colorful components. Accordingly, we moved away from the bold red and black to a more refined, darker aesthetic, integrating our new Aura Sync RGB lighting to give builders complete control over their system’s look. The ROG Crosshair VI Hero symbolized AMD’s triumphant return to the high-performance desktop scene, and it provided the stable, feature-rich foundation that enthusiasts needed to explore the groundbreaking new Zen architecture.
The sound of silence: ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero
As the AM4 platform matured, we listened closely to the feedback from our community. Our second salvo of AM4 boards included the series-defining ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero.
Its name perfectly captured its essence: a stealthy, all-black design that offered a sleek, non-RGB alternative for builders who preferred a more understated look. But its most celebrated feature was an engineering triumph. It was one of the first X570 motherboards to cool its powerful chipset entirely passively, eliminating the need for the small chipset fan that had been a common point of complaint for enthusiasts. This commitment to silent, uncompromising performance made the Dark Hero an instant classic and the definitive choice for a premium Ryzen 5000 series build.
The ultimate expression: ROG Crosshair X870E Glacial
This is what happens when nearly twenty years of engineering experience is given free rein. The “Glacial” moniker is reserved for the absolute apex of our design, and the Crosshair X870E Glacial is a masterpiece.

Everything old becomes new again: the ROG Crosshair 2006
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original ROG Crosshair, we’re debuting a new motherboard that combines AM5 prowess with mid-2000s aesthetics: the ROG Crosshair 2006.
The ROG Crosshair 2006 serves a heaping portion of nostalgia by bringing the original’s most iconic visual themes into the present, all while adding a few touches of its own. We’ll start with the coppery sheen that abounds across its surfaces. For weight considerations, we’ve updated the heatsink material to the lightweight aluminum that we use for cooling today’s high-performance motherboards. But to ramp up the retro style, we’ve given this material an eye-catching copper hue — and use that color extensively for the heatsinks and visual accents.
In terms of connectivity and performance, the ROG Crosshair 2006 builds on the foundation of the ROG Crosshair X870E Dark Hero. To help you unleash your top-end AMD Ryzen 9000 Series CPU, it boasts an upgraded power solution with 20(110A)+2(110A)+2 power stages, ProCool II power connectors, MicroFine alloy chokes, and premium 10K black metallic capacitors.
