What is AEMP Mix Tuning, and who is it for?

Some PC builders are most concerned with how their motherboard can help them achieve the highest performance they can get with their memory kit. Others are more concerned with compatibility. Their most affordable solution for getting a PC up and running is a non-standard memory configuration, and they’re looking for options that will help them achieve a successful system boot. To help this second group of builders, we’ve launched a new BIOS feature called AEMP Mix Tuning.

Available now for ASUS Intel 800-series motherboards via a firmware update, ASUS AEMP Mix Tuning helps users seeking to operate a mixed memory configuration of 2-4 DRAM sticks of different models, including combinations of different frequencies and capacities. The compatibility-first tuning algorithm focuses first and foremost on ensuring reliable system boots and stable operation, all while increasing frequency as possible.

To access ASUS AEMP Mix Tuning for your current Intel 800 Series motherboard, you’ll need the latest BIOS update. Visit the ASUS Support website, enter the model name of your motherboard in the search bar, and look for the latest BIOS update in the Driver & Tools menu.

What is AEMP Mix Tuning?

AEMP Mix Tuning is a new feature for tuning DRAM using ASUS Intel 800-series motherboards. This BIOS feature provides better flexibility and compatibility for builders seeking to install mixed DDR5 memory configurations.

This compatibility-first approach to memory tuning first prioritizes establishing a bootable configuration, and then seeks to optimize memory performance. It helps the system support a wider range of non-CUDIMM DDR5 configurations, specifically when the installed modules have different specifications.

What are the benefits of AEMP Mix Tuning?

Primarily, AEMP Mix Tuning benefits PC builders seeking to run a PC with a mixed DDR5 memory configuration, including installations with modules from different kits or with different specifications. AEMP Mix Tuning automatically identifies suitable memory settings to improve reliability and compatibility. The feature can also increase frequency, as well, for improved performance.

What motherboards and memory kits are compatible with AEMP Mix Tuning?

AEMP Mix Tuning is an ASUS-exclusive BIOS feature. It is currently available via a firmware update to owners of an ASUS Intel 800-series motherboard.

The option to enable AEMP Mix Tuning will only appear in the UEFI BIOS Utility if the following conditions are all met:

  • The user is operating an ASUS Intel 800-series motherboard
  • The motherboard’s firmware has been updated to a version which includes AEMP Mix Tuning
  • The motherboard has detected a mixed-install memory condition in which the modules are not a perfect match
  • None of the installed memory sticks are CUDIMM

If you are having compatibility issues with a matching memory kit, AEMP Mix Tuning will not be available, but your ASUS motherboard may offer other features that can help instead. In these scenarios, try AEMP II / AEMP III, or try running DIMM Fit.

Will AEMP Mix Tuning make my memory run faster?

The AEMP Mix Tuning algorithm seeks a balance between boosting performance and ensuring stability. In many instances, AEMP Mix Tuning will help your memory run faster by increasing frequency.

That said, AEMP Mix Tuning focuses primarily on improving compatibility so that your system can boot. On top of that bootable foundation, users can pursue other options for stepping up to a stable overclocked frequency.

How do I run AEMP Mix Tuning?

If your motherboard and installed memory configuration support AEMP Mix Tuning, you’ll find the option to enable AEMP Mix Tuning in the Extreme Tweaker menu of the UEFI BIOS utility. Reboot your PC, enter the UEFI BIOS by pressing F2 or DEL. Once inside the UEFI, press F7 to enter Advanced Mode. Then, navigate to the Extreme Tweaker menu. In the dropdown menu for AEMP Mix Tuning, select “Enabled.”

After you enable AEMP Mix Tuning, press F10 to save your settings and reset your PC. The system will begin AEMP Mix Tuning. This process does take some time.

Why don’t I see AEMP Mix Tuning in the UEFI BIOS utility?

AEMP Mix Tuning is only available for users of ASUS Intel 800 Series motherboards with updated firmware and a mixed memory configuration. AEMP Mix Tuning does not support CUDIMM.

Don’t ASUS Intel 800-series motherboards already support mixed-memory configurations via AEMP II / AEMP III?

Yes! AEMP Mix Tuning joins a variety of memory optimization tools already available to users of ASUS Intel 800-series motherboards. Broadly speaking, AEMP is a firmware feature that can improve the performance of non-XMP / non-EXPO DDR5 memory modules. Updated versions of AEMP (AEMP II and AEMP III) introduced support for mixed memory configurations.

We developed AEMP Mix Tuning in response to feedback from folks in the PC building community looking for a feature focused more on compatibility than performance. Previously, when mixed memory configurations were incompatible, users were left with little choice other than to repurchase memory. AEMP Mix Tuning gives these users a way to achieve stable operation. After that point, they can pursue other memory tuning options.
