One of the perks of my job here at ASUS is that I get to spend a lot of time with the latest PC hardware. As I’m writing about hardware, prepping it for product photography, and putting it through its paces for testing purposes, I get an up-close-and-personal look at what it really feels like to use the components. So while I don’t need to do a lot of Black Friday 2025 shopping for myself (not that that’ll prevent me from adding yet another option to my keyboard selection), I have a great vantage point to make some recommendations about what Black Friday 2025 tech purchases stand to make the biggest impact this year. And for gamers, the answer is straightforward: if you haven’t yet upgraded to an OLED gaming monitor, this is the moment to take the plunge. And as far as I’m concerned, no OLED monitor out there offers a better balance of performance, features, and price than the ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG. Right now, it’s only $549 (USD), down from its MSRP of $699 (USD).
What makes an OLED gaming monitor such a compelling pick
First, some basics about the ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG. It’s a 27-inch WOLED gaming monitor with a 2560×1440 resolution, putting it right in the Goldilocks zone for most gamers: big enough to draw you in while letting you scan the entire battlefield without turning your head, and detailed enough to bring digital worlds to life without putting too much of a strain on your graphics card. It caters to competitive gamers with a speedy 240Hz refresh rate and an absurdly fast 0.03ms gray-to-gray response time, maintaining pristine image clarity in fast paced action.

What really sells me about OLED panel technology, though, is the contrast. Thanks to its OLED tech and a stated contrast ratio around 1.5 million to 1, blacks are incredibly deep. Playing games with dark corners — think horror, stealth, or space scenes — feels way more immersive, because the shadows are truly black instead of just dark gray. And when bright things explode on screen or your HUD lights up, the colors pop in a way that just isn’t as punchy on IPS panels.
On top of that, the monitor supports both FreeSync Premium and is G-Sync Compatible, so tear-free gaming is in play whether you’re on AMD or NVIDIA. For me, that’s an essential requirement. In 2025, you shouldn’t put up with screen tearing for even a moment.
What ROG brings to the table
Some folks have the impression that all that matters in a display is the panel, that two monitors with the same panel offer the same experience. The truth is much more nuanced.

One aspect of OLED gaming monitor design that makes ROG options stand out in comparison to the competition is their cooling hardware. There’s a custom heatsink under the hood and an airflow design that helps with heat. This hardware provides assurance that you won’t need to worry about the specter of burn-in with your OLED gaming monitor. OLED Care features take things a step further with things like pixel-refresh routines that help preserve the panel and reduce risk of burn-in. That’s a smart hedge for someone like me, since I need my monitors to play double duty for both gaming and productivity, and there’ll definitely be moments when a static HUD or UI element will be on screen for stretches of time.
Other niceties from the ROG team include an OLED Anti-Flicker mode with multiple strength settings (Strong, Middle, Off) to reduce flicker when the refresh rate jiggles around. ROG-exclusive Uniform Brightness mode eliminates the weird brightness fluctuations that happen in situations like changing the size of white windows. And I love how I can access vital monitor controls via software through ASUS DisplayWidget Center.
ROG Strix OLED gaming monitors don’t skimp on the everyday conveniences, either. They have a stand that holds the display securely without demanding much desktop space, an integrated smartphone holder, a USB Type-C port ready to recharge peripherals and devices, and a tripod socket atop the display stand. You’ll get plenty of ergonomic adjustments, too, so that you can game for long sessions in comfort.
How it feels to game on the ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG
From a real-world gaming perspective, this monitor is a joy. When I boot up a fast FPS like Counter-Strike 2, I notice the 0.03ms response time right away. The way that images stay clear and sharp, even as everything on the screen is in motion, is an incredible advantage. After my first play session with an OLED gaming monitor, I found it hard to go back to my standby LCD monitor. With such a fast response time, an ultra-high refresh rate is crucial. 240 Hz refresh rate isn’t overkill by any stretch of the imagination. Motion feels fluid, input latency feels negligible, and I can track targets cleanly.

When I switch to more cinematic or artistically rich games — say, narrative-driven or visually detailed titles like Cyberpunk 2077 — the OLED panel shines. HDR effects look crisp, and because of the deep blacks, shadows feel real. On an IPS screen, some dark scenes can look washed out, but here the contrast feels natural.
One reason why I like this particular OLED gaming monitor is that it pairs a WOLED panel with a glossy coating. Since I work from home, I spend a lot of time in front my monitor when there’s lots of sunshine streaming in through my windows. That high ambient lighting can cause difficulties for some monitors, but a glossy WOLED monitor can still offer deep blacks in that scenario. (Side note: the ROG Strix OLED XG32UCWG, just launched this year, offers our latest TrueBlack Glossy coating, which does even more to combat high ambient lighting levels. It’s even on sale for Black Friday, too.)
Why now is the time to grab this monitor
Here’s where things get spicy: the Black Friday deal on this monitor is easily the best window to grab it. OLED gaming monitors are premium tech, so deals on them don’t come around every day. The discounts that ROG prepped for Black Friday 2025 are some of the best we’ve ever offered.
