AVAILABILITY & PRICING
The ASUS ZenPad S 8.0 Z580CA is available immediately for $299 USD at Amazon, B&H Photo Video, Newegg, Tiger Direct and the ASUS Store.
I have had my ZenPad Z580CA for a few weeks and enjoy the speed and the display, but my Z Stylus has been on back order at Adromada.com for 3 weeks now. So, when will the Z Stylus be available? Also, does Asus plan to offer the Z580C/CA an upgrade to Android 6.0?
Hi Jim, I’ll check on this for you. Regarding Android 6.0 – there hasn’t been an official timeline of updates for devices and I’ve been pushing our HQ team to provide a roadmap. Please be patient. I hope to hear from them soon.
@Khang, thanks for the reply and thanks for the MyZen site. It in nice to see Asus address the desires of consumers to be informed about the devices they purchase or are considering purchasing.
No worries! I definitely want to help our community and hopefully I have! 🙂
Any news?
Still no news on an update for the Zenpad ???
The ZenFone appears to be getting development support with Asus releasing a bootloader unlock and custom ROMS appearing, but what about the ZenPad S? There is a rooting method for the ZenPad on XDA, by tethering to a computer, which results in boot loops if you install updates and there is little interest in development apparently. So will Asus allow development of the ZenPad? This thing would be awesome with a custom ROM.
Although we don’t necessarily promote slapping on custom ROMs, it is really up to the development community to make those kinds of things happen. The bootloader unlock is a great step forward, but it’s a bit buggy. Until we have a fully functional tool, then I would just hang tight.
Thanks. Also, I have read conflicting statements on the ZenPad bootloader. So is it locked or is it unlocked?
Hi
Is there any more news about the update to Android 6.0?
Might not be able to root w/ 6.x. I will be content w/ v5.1.1.
When are the Zenpad S 8’s getting lollipop support from Asus? Why are we left in the dark in comparison to Zenfone owners?
ZenPad S 8’s plans for Android 6.0 are where? No news for your tablet owners but plenty of news for your phone owners, why is that?
Why so little regard for your tablet owners? Is this how you want to enter the tablet arena?
Don’t mention the Transformer Pad Infinity [TF701t] users. The tablet never got an update to Android 5.x.x … when i bought it 5.0 was around the corner but not for this device.
I am forced to buy a new tablet for security patches and a new version of the OS. And still I got to stick to Asus I refuse to buy Apple or Samsung products.
Nevertheless I’m pleased with the TF701t despite the 0 updates I have received in the years ive used the device.
ASUS ZenPad 8 S Z580C user here, it’s only gotten minor firmware updates with Android 5.0 Lollipop, and nothing new since I bought this tablet July 2015. I’d stick to a NVIDIA K1 Tablet, or even a Nexus 9, over this one. Looks like we are NOT getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow, folks. ASUS is not known for long-term support of their devices. We will be lucky to get a 5.1.1 update. It runs good enough on 5.0, but soon enough, Android N will be out, and we will be 2 whole generations of Android behind.
I’m also a Zenpad 8 S Z588C owner. I wont buy anything from Asus again…. This is BS that were left out after buying there product.
No updates, No more buying Asus. Its a shame they take our money and run.
Hi Khang, any news on that 6.0 Update or the bootloader unlock. I would really encourage your dev Team to use all that wonderful hardware that you guys put into the S 8.
Thanks for a great product
Shake
Where is the bootloader unlock? This is a semi worthless device as it is lacking all security updates. Considering Asus current track record on the matter I don’t expect any further updates from them. Now about all the pathetic bloated cruft included in the stock rom…
Unlock the bootloader! You already have our money from the hardware purchase, what logical reason could you have for not giving your customers the freedom to keep their devices updated and secure?
Will not buy an Asus tablet again, I don’t buy equipment that comes pre-deprecated.
Hey Khang ,, We are all waiting to hear if there is going to be a Android 6.0 update yet or anything else people have been asking about ??
I think Khang has left the building and forgot about us.
Its sad to say in his own words back on Oct 14 2015 he said,, ASUS Khang October 14, 2015 at 9:51 am
No worries! I definitely want to help our community and hopefully I have! This doesn’t seem true now.
Has anyone seen this or tried this yet from Google.. ????
I haven’t tried it yet…

I have been a strong supporter of ASUS technology, using system boards, monitors, and Android Nexus 7 devices, with great satisfaction, but I will have to say that my ASUS ZenPad S8 has been my greatest disappointment with ASUS. No upgrade from Android 5.0, a locked bootloader, and zero development for the device from XDA has left the device as a bedside reader. Simply glad I have a Nexus 6P.
I have been considering the z580 ca and the Nvidia shield K1. Right now, the K1 is winning because of the upgrade to Android 6. Is an upgrade coming soon to the S8 or should I go with the K1?
Mike,, SO far all we know is there no upgrade to 6.0. The Z580 is a great tablet, were just pissed there is no update.
how can update android marshmallow on my asus zenpad. can i try this http://androidappsplaystore.net/ tutorials.
Have you ever thought about adding a little bit
more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is valuable and everything.
However think of if you added some great graphics or video clips to give your
posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with pics and video clips,
this blog could undeniably be one of the very best in its field.
Very good blog!
I WANT TOBUY A 64 GB TABLET … THIS ASUS SEEMS OK … BUT NO MARSHMALOW ???? NO THANK YOU ASUS
No updates available for my newish z580ca tablet? Never Asus again, that’s for sure, anything but. Shameful ASUS.
Google recently released Android 7.0. The Asus flagship tablet Zenpad S 8.0 (Z580CA) is still stuck on Android 5.0 and hasn’t received any updates since May.
At least unlock the bootloader so people could work on alternative ROMs since Asus has given up on support for these tablets.
I know that I will not be buying anymore Asus products. Why would anyone continue to buy products from a company that refuses to stand by and support said products.
