Four new ASUS X570 motherboards keep enthusiasts at the cutting edge

When it comes to upgradeability and raw expansion bandwidth, the AMD X570 chipset reigns supreme among mainstream motherboards. We launched our original X570 motherboard lineup a little over two years ago, and the platform’s popularity among both seasoned enthusiasts and new builders remains strong.

Even though the capable X570 chipset itself has held its place atop the mainstream motherboard standings, PC technology doesn’t stand still. Networking, peripheral I/O, and audio tech have all advanced since we launched our first round of X570 boards. To let enthusiasts of all stripes take advantage of these advancements, we’re adding four new motherboards to our X570 family. You’ll find passive chipset cooling (first introduced on the ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero), improved power handling and overclocking features, more capable networking hardware, and even Thunderbolt 4 connectivity on some models. Paired with the X570 chipset, these new features keep these four boards at the forefront of PC technology.

The ROG Crosshair VIII Extreme packs every one of our latest innovations into a beastly E-ATX form factor that’s equally at home in the most extroverted custom PCs and under the most extreme overclocking conditions. The ROG Strix X570-E Gaming WiFi II distills the most essential of our latest ROG features into a luxurious, stylish platform for discerning gamers and enthusiasts. The balanced TUF Gaming X570-Pro WiFi II is poised to perform in speedy, solid, and stealthy gaming builds. And the ProArt X570-Creator WiFi is ready for content creators, developers, and other professionals who need unquestionable stability and broad connectivity for their work.

The ROG Crosshair VIII Extreme and ROG Strix X570-E Gaming WiFi II also offer a brand-new, ASUS-exclusive feature called Dynamic OC Switcher—a boon for those looking to wring every last MHz out of their Ryzen chips under all workloads. Until now, manually overclocking an AMD Ryzen CPU meant maximizing all-core clock speeds at the expense of the high light-load boost clocks that are so important for general system responsiveness. Dynamic OC Switcher lets you have the best of both worlds. Enable this feature, and the motherboard will automatically switch between pushing light-load clocks to the limit with AMD Precision Boost Overdrive and all-core clocks to the max with your manual overclock settings. This feature will also be made available on the previously released ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero.

All four of these motherboards come with BIOS FlashBack™ to let you update the firmware with only a USB thumb drive and power supply—handy when a new processor release comes around or for brand-new systems where you might need an updated UEFI before the first boot. Our award-winning Q-Fan control software allows for careful tweaking of fan curves for the best noise/airflow balance, further empowered by dedicated AIO headers and hybrid fan headers that can detect and work with both DC and PWM fans.

Style and panache come by way of onboard Aura Sync RGB lighting and Gen 2 addressable headers with advanced auto-detection features. ProCool auxiliary power input headers let you rest easy knowing that the amount of juice flowing into the VRMs won’t result in an unstable system, or even a fire hazard. Over in the audio aisle, SupremeFX audio chips present pristine pitches, while Two-Way AI Noise Cancelling lets you hear and be heard crystal-clear by your teammates by removing distracting background noise like mechanical keyboard clacks or dog barks. ROG and ROG Strix models come with DTS Sound Unbound support for pinpoint-accurate 3D audio, while DTS Custom handles surround sound virtualization in the TUF Gaming model.

It’s now time to give a close look at each new X570 board. No matter what type of system you’re building, one of them is bound to be just right for you.

The ROG Crosshair VIII Extreme holds nothing back

Our Crosshair VIII Hero and Crosshair VIII Dark Hero boards already power many high-end Ryzen systems, but we’ve been hard at work on something more… extreme. The Crosshair VIII Extreme boasts the highest-end hardware loadout and components we’ve yet put in an X570 motherboard. It’s ready for the most demanding gamers and entertainers, the most competitive overclockers, the most visionary custom builders, and the enthusiasts who want it all.

Starting from the literal top, the upgraded VRM around the CPU socket uses an 18+2 stage design with 90A power stages for clean, efficient power delivery, especially when you unleash a 16-core Ryzen 9 5950X with the new Dynamic OC Switcher. A pair of beefy, angular aluminum heatsinks, connected by a heatpipe, ensure rapid and even heat dissipation. The gorgeous I/O cover is made of cold-forged, diamond-cut aluminum for a look that’s unmistakably ROG, but its beauty runs more than skin deep. It’s an integral part of the VRM heatsink, increasing surface area and cooling capacity.

The 2” LiveDash OLED display atop the M.2 heatsink at the center of the board can show vital system stats like temperatures and voltages, or you can make your build your own by adding your choice of custom graphics or animations. The large striations of the aluminum heatsink at mid-board help keep the X570 chipset cool under load, even without an active cooling fan. We use this real estate to add a massive ROG logo with Aura RGB lighting to make your allegiance clear. A third M.2 heatsink in polished alloy wraps around the lower PCIe slots, completing a contemporary look that’s stylish yet subdued enough to look its best under RGB case lighting.

The most storage-hungry builders can install up to five PCI Express 4.0 SSDs on this board: one under the upper M.2 heatsink, two under the lower M.2 heatsink, and another pair mounted vertically on our exclusive DIMM.2 card. The three main M.2 slots don’t just cool the upper side of the SSD. A new all-around heatsink design cools the underside of each SSD for the lowest temperatures and highest sustained performance. Our new Q-Latch mechanism, incorporated under the three main M.2 slots, lets you secure drives with one tool-free twist.

Moving around to the I/O panel, the Crosshair VIII Extreme boasts what may well be the most comprehensive port selection on an X570 motherboard. The options start with a set of two Ethernet connectors: one powered by a 10 Gigabit Ethernet controller that can shift multi-terabyte files with ease, the other by an Intel 2.5GbE chip. Wireless connectivity comes courtesy of a cutting-edge WiFi 6E adapter that can take advantage of a huge swath of unsullied wireless airspace. This radio also provides the latest Bluetooth 5.2 support for easy pairing of wireless peripherals.

The most demanding users demand Thunderbolt, so the Crosshair VIII Extreme has not one, but two Thunderbolt 4 ports with 40Gbps of bandwidth each, along with dedicated DisplayPort inputs for single-cable monitor hook-ups. Eight USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A connectors capable of pushing 10Gbps each offer plenty of room for high-speed peripherals, and one of them supports BIOS FlashBack™ for easy firmware upgrades. A Clear CMOS button and a full set of audio outputs including SPDIF complete the back panel I/O.

Internal headers unlock access to four USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports and two USB 3.2 Type-C ports. One of the latter connectors is a 20Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 port with 60W Power Delivery 3.0 fast-charging support. This feature is a first on our motherboard lineup, and it lets you connect your laptop, tablet, or phone to your PC to quickly charge it without a wall adapter.

The audio capabilities of the Crosshair VIII Extreme match the high-end ambitions of the rest of the board. A SupremeFX ALC4082 chip with 32-bit, 384KHz playback support teams up with a high-end ESS Sabre 9018Q2C DAC that transforms digital audio into the most pristine analog waveforms for front-panel audio outputs. Each rear output jack features a color-coded LED, making them easy to identify when you’re plugging in or adjusting your surround setup. DTS Sound Unbound and Two-way AI Noise Cancelling support round out the main specs.

For the best audio with any device, the Extreme also includes the ROG Clavis USB-C DAC. An ESS Sabre 9281 chip featuring a powerful headphone amplifier and MQA audio support sits at the heart of the Clavis, ensuring high-quality sound with headsets that use a single 3.5mm connector for both microphone input and headphone output. Attach the Clavis to the Crosshair VIII Extreme for high-quality audio from your preferred headset, or connect it to your phone, Nintendo Switch, or PS5 for the same experience away from your PC.

In addition to an award-winning firmware interface that’s easy to command and control, the Crosshair VIII Extreme ships with all the cooling and overclocking features that hardcore enthusiasts demand. Extreme overclockers will find voltage measurement points, onboard controls, mode switches, and a super-handy Q-Code POST boot code display to give them a full view of what’s happening as they push a Ryzen CPU to the limit.

For setting up elaborate cooling rigs, the Extreme comes with four standard fan headers, two pairs of connectors for pumps and radiators, plus two HydraNode headers that can power and monitor up to three compatible fans each. That’s not all—connectors for liquid input, output, and flow sensors let builders with custom loops monitor the health of their liquid-cooled setup. Customization is key for unique systems, so the Crosshair VIII Extreme provides three Gen 2 addressable RGB LED headers plus a standard four-pin RGB connector. We even include an ARGB splitter in the box for larger builds that might need lots of strips.

For those that want to express themselves in RGB, the ProArt X570-Creator has three Gen2 addressable RGB headers, plus a standard RGB strip connector.

Whether it’s for an artist seeking background inspiration or an audio pro checking a mastered track, clean sound is crucial for any creative workstation. The ProArt X570-Creator WiFi features a premium S1220A codec with an integrated auto-sensing headphone amplifier, all wired through discrete audio paths with Japanese capacitors. Two-way AI Noise Cancelling cuts down on background noise and chatter in team meetings or client calls.

A build around this board will potentially live in a large department or corporate network, so we include the ASUS Control Center Express remote IT asset monitoring and management software—a blessing for your friendly systems administrator. At a local level, the ProArt Creator Hub application centralizes system monitoring and workload-specific optimization, as well as color calibration controls for compatible monitors. The app also offers our convenient Task Group feature so that you can quickly get down to work with one click. For just two examples, creators might pair DAW and streaming software, or a 3D modelling app with a texture design tool. Rather than digging through their desktop or Start menu to find these apps, they can launch them all at once with Task Group.
